If you're looking for a cheap dedicated server in the USA, look at
vrtservers.net. It's cheap, you can choose your OS (Debian, FreeBSD, Fedora Core, CentOS ...), and it's working quite well (at least the one I've been using for one month now).
In France,
Lost Oasis is quite good too.
